EPDM: ETHYLENE PROPYLENE DIENE MONOMER

What is EPDM?

More commonly known as the “rubber roof” EPDM is an extremely durable thermoset, synthetic rubber roofing membrane widely used in low-slope buildings. Its has two primary ingredients, ethylene and propylene, which are derived from oil and natural gas and is available in black or white and comes in a wide range of widths, ranging from 7.5 feet to fifty feet, and in two thicknesses, 45 and 60 mils.

Benefits of EPDM

EPDM provides good resistance to corrosive chemicals, diluted mineral acids and vegetable oils, and when installed and maintained correctly, can last up to 30 years, as it is resistant to the sun’s UV and ultraviolet rays. EPDM rubber also reflects heat and helps cut cooling costs in summer and acts as an insulator during the colder months, to help reduce heating costs.
